Sumner
Rep. Jesse Sumner

Due to Jesse Sumner’s election to the Alaska House of Representatives in November, his Mat-Su Borough Assembly seat is now vacant.

The borough is currently accepting applications to fill the spot, with an application deadline of Feb. 6.

After reviewing all applications, the borough assembly will then appoint someone to serve until the next regular election, which is scheduled for this coming November.

To fill the assembly seat, an applicant must be a qualified borough voter and a resident who has lived in Assembly District 6 for at least one year immediately prior to the appointment.

District 6 includes the North Palmer and North Wasilla areas including: Hatcher Pass, Wasilla Fishhook, Schrock, and Memory Lake. For those who are unsure whether they reside in Assembly District 6, they can contact the borough clerk’s office at (907) 861-8683.

All applicants need to fill out a short, two-page application and return it to the clerk’s office. Applications can be found here.

The successful candidate must file a financial disclosure form with the Alaska Public Offices Commission within 30 days of appointment.

For more information, call the clerk’s office or visit in person (350 E. Dahlia Ave., Palmer).
