According to a newly released poll, Republican Nick Begich has pulled into a statistical dead heat in his bid to unseat Democratic U.S. Congresswoman Mary Peltola.

Conducted by Cygnal Survey, the Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 poll included 400 likely voters. It notes that Peltola holds a slight lead – 38% to 35%, well within the 4.86% margin of error.

When factoring political “leaners” – those who have not yet decided who to vote for – Peltola’s lead shrinks to 46% to 45%.

Perhaps more importantly, Begich has room to improve. According to the poll, 16% of voters either have “no opinion” on Begich or have never even heard of him. As for Peltola, only 6.4% of voters say the same.

“The seat is ready to flip with the right messaging and introducing Begich to voters who don’t yet know him,” the poll concludes.

Begich has additional room for optimism due to the fact that former President Donald Trump is also on the ticket in November. The new poll shows Trump with a solid lead against Vice President Kamala Harris – 53% to 43%, and many believe conservative enthusiasm and turnout will exceed that of Democrats and political leftists.

Begich also enjoys an advantage over Peltola in the “image” factor. According to the poll, Begich has a +10.6 favorability, while Peltola is at +8.6%. That’s a massive improvement for Begich. A March poll by Data for Progress showed Begich at zero favorability and Peltola at +10.
