Leaders of the Alaska Republican Party’s District 29 in the Mat-Su have had it with lawmakers who run as Republicans only to abandon the party and what it stands for once elected.

GOP leaders in District 29, which includes the Northern Mat-Su area, approved three resolutions calling for permanent sanctions to be imposed on U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Alaska State Senators Gary Stevens (Kodiak), Bert Stedman (Sitka), Cathy Giessel (Anchorage), Kelly Merrick (Eagle River), Jesse Bjorkman (Nikiski), and Alaska State Representatives Chuck Kopp (Anchorage) and Louise Stutes (Kodiak).

According to the resolutions, passed in December, these lawmakers have actively worked against the GOP, while claiming to be members of the Republican Party.

The two resolutions dealing with five State Senators and two State Representatives condemn these lawmakers for abandoning the GOP and empowering majority caucuses in the State Legislature which are comprised of many non-Republicans.

By refusing to caucus with Republicans to form a Republican majority, these elected officials have given “majority control to Democrats” and flipped “Alaska’s legislative bodies from Republican to Democrat majorities,” the resolution states.

District 29 has called for the local GOP districts, which these lawmakers are supposed to represent, to officially sanction these individuals and actively recruit challengers to unseat them.

Furthermore, District 29 urged the Alaska Republican Party’s (ARP) state leadership to declare that these legislators are “permanently ineligible for endorsement or support by the ARP or its affiliates, and permanently prohibiting participation in ARP events, and any other appropriate sanction not disallowed by ARP or RNC Rules.”

With regard to Sen. Murkowski, District 29 cited the fact that she has “worked against the ARP and Alaska’s Republicans by encouraging Alaskans to vote No on Ballot Measure 2,” which would have ended ranked-choice voting. Murkowski is also called out for vowing to vote against President Trump’s cabinet nominations.

“Whereas Senator Murkowski has a long history working against the ARP; therefore, be it resolved that the ARP urges Senator Murkowski to change her voter registration to anything but Republican,” the resolution states. It adds that the ARP’s state leaders should vow to “recruit a challenger” to run against Murkowski and then “permanently” separate from Murkowski, including the imposition of “permanent censure” to declare her “permanently ineligible for endorsement or support by the ARP or its affiliates, permanently prohibiting participation in ARP events, and every other appropriate sanction not disallowed by ARP or RNC Rules.”

Upon passage of the resolutions, District 29 Chairman Casey Campbell alerted his fellow Alaska districts, urging them to take decisive action.

“We would hope Districts will consider possible sanctions as provided for in Party Rules,” Campbell wrote. “As a District we feel it is very important to hold our elected officials accountable. Currently Republicans have lost their strength in session because we are not holding together in Juneau, or D.C. These people need to be held to account as per the Party Rules then removed and replaced with Republicans who will hold strong to the Party Platform and Goals.”

If there is a mechanism to force these turn-coats out of the Republican party, then do it!

  • Paul Hart says:

At least Lisa Murkowski had the guts to stand up against the utterly toxic and unqualified Pete Hegseth. Most of the other Republicans in Congress are too terrified of Trump to do anything that might incur his wrath. They’re spineless.

    • Steve says:

Don’t you question Lisa’s ability to read the room. Didn’t she vote to confirm Mayorkas, was he qualified? How about Lloyd Austin, he went AWOL without notifying anyone. Then there was Peter Buttigieg, what were his qualification? I could go on and on with her poor sense of judgement. The only reason Lisa is resistant to Trump choices is her personal animus toward President Trump. She voted to impeach him, only listening to the what the left was feeding her. She’s a hack and a cheat ! Lisa doesn’t represent us, she represents herself only.

    • OK in Anchorage says:

Riiiight…the same Lisa who voted to confirm Sam Binton, “Rachel” Levine, and Ketanji Brown Jackson?

These folks are non-toxic and qualified?
Why are heterosexual males held to higher standards of fidelity and sexual conduct than anyone else in this country? Why is it that a man who admits to cheating on his wives is less qualified than a man who is known for bestiality, or a man known for dressing as a woman?

    • Judy Price says:

Thank goodness there is some republican with brains and guts. Thanks to Lisa for not just following the party line and instead actually using good sense to see where the current party line is taking us.

    • Steve Peterson says:

Please tell me you aren’t serious! Look at who she DID approve under the Biden regime and then make your statement if you can. She approved utter losers who cost our country dearly. Hegseth isn’t perfect but compared to those confirmations- or the Kow herself- he’s a saint!

      • Jeff Butler says:

Steve, You’ve got a toxic case of Truth Denial Syndrome. “Hesgeth isn’t perfect”. Can you possibly make a weaker statement? Convicted Felon supporters usually bellow about maintaining a strong military and national security. Because of Hegseth’s extraordinary unfitness for the job and the mess of government that President Convict is gleefully creating, America has never been more vulnerable to attack.

    • Steve R says:

Lisa Murkowski took 90% of her campaign finance dollars from outside sources……many who are the Biggest RINO’s and many who have played a big role in the destructive elements that have done nothing but to weaken the US in all respects…..including our military. The people did not vote for Trump @the man” but voted for his agenda and I stand behind his agenda 100%

    • Kirk Sanderson says:

Seriously, she voted for men that think they are women. Totally unqualified people that did serious damage to America. Surgery will be needed to fix this mess of the last 4 years. She needs to go, remove her from every position.

    • Christine Lea says:

You’re either a RINO or a Democrat. Get out of here! You don’t belong

      • Steve says:

Allow them to be here, they don’t intimidate nor challenge us. They just re-enforce what is obvious to the logical minded citizens of this country. Without them, how would we know how correct we are?

  • Reggie Taylor says:

This is long overdue. I wish these party officials well.

  • V says:

    Murkowski and Merrick must go!

  • Judy Price says:

Thanks to Lisa and all those who actually use their minds and hearts to vote rather than just following the party line. If every representative of the people just follows what someone else says, why would we need more than one representative? And in this case considering what the republican party has come to promote and represent would mean following one mindless anti-Democracy bully.

    • Kirk Sanderson says:

Sounds like you’re a hard core democrat that has tds.

    • Stormy says:

Party politics breeds followers not leaders. Go Lisa!

      • FreedomAK says:

There’s your problem in a nutshell (no offense meant). YOU desire to be led by politicians and bureaucrats. Judging by the recent butt-kicking the left just received, the majority of voters sent a clear message that we feel otherwise. Murkowski still doesn’t get that which shows she’s totally tone deaf to Alaskans. She does have a horde of sycophants who adore her as their beloved “leader”. But she’s not our leader, she is our representative , even though she was foisted upon us and has hung on in the most devious of ways since and she doesn’t represent my values much at all. You’ll never understand my mindset of autonomy and liberty nor will I understand yours seeking to be led. I hope you prosper over the next four years and find a greater sense of freedom!

  • Jim Weber says:

Hey folks, all of you: stop with the bickering one way or the other— join together as REPUBLICANS Statewide and apply sanctions and any other force to show all of these scallywags they are not welcome in our party Alaska State Republlicans PERIOD
Then get down to business — based on Alaska electoral vote, step abord the Trump Train and ride it for all its worth…. Some will disagree granted, that’s OK The majority of us want to move forward

  • Joel says:

    MatSu Republicans have had it?!?!?

    • Peter Thomas says:

      right?!?! like, WOW! snowflakes melt.
the Alaskan republicans have been taken over by the tea party AGAINNNNN.

  • Friend of Humanity says:

So many trolls on the board lately. Lol

  • Ken Hills says:

I urge everyone to phone John Thune’s office and request Him to remove Murkowski from all committees! As most Republicans in Ak do not support Her Rino/ Democrat policies.

  • Pat says:

Can we recall her and if so how do we go about it.

  • Willy Keppel says:

Just cause some judge in Alaska says the party can’t kick out RINOs, isn’t a reason to appeal all the way to the Supreme Court of the land.

  • RLG says:

These Alaska Republicans have not abandoned Republican Party you all have. You are no longer Republicans you are MAGAians! Shame on you for abandoning the GOP!

    • Steve says:

Actually the Republicans you speak about have long since ditched the Constitution. It seem to me more and more RINO’s are in politics solely for the power, as Lisa is. She recently replied, to a letter I sent her, about her voting along side the Democrats on the last temporary budget. Her response was nothing short of, “But look at all the money I brought back to the State”. She’s a pork barreling politician, just like Ted Stevens was. She not qualified to be in office if she can’t balance the budget and constantly vote to spend more of what we don’t have !

  • Mike Alexander says:

First of all,to be qualified for Secretary of Defence per the Constitution one has to be a civilian. That’s it.
As for the Tea Party running the ARP the RINOS mentioned in this article would not have gotten elected

    • OK in Anchorage says:

      Right.
      Thank you, MarkWayne Mullin!
Nobody makes any mention here of what actually makes Hegseth unfit or unqualified…

  • slabhand says:

Logan Act Violator, Princess Murkowski, believes her subjects should STFU and grovel. Stevens, Giessel, Bjorkman et al should count the $$$s they’ve stolen, pack their carpet bags and resign.
