Due to his failure to uphold the party platform, voting on bills that oppose GOP values and joining a Democratic-controlled majority that now dominates the Alaska Senate, two GOP Districts have voted unanimously to censure State Senator Jesse Bjorkman (R-Nikiski).

The complaint against Bjorkman, which was submitted and voted on last month, notes that the lawmaker has joined a “non-Republican led majority caucus consisting of 9 non-Republicans and five registered Republicans. Together this group has marginalized the more conservative block of the GOP and forced them into the minority with little to no ability to pass conservative legislation.

The complaint also states that Bjorkman “brings dishonor to the Republican party through his lack of integrity by regularly making false statement.”

Examples include Bjorkman telling a reporter in 2022 that he would not join a Democratic-led collation, and then going ahead and doing so later. The complaint also asserts that Bjorkman has falsely claimed to be working with fellow GOP members on election integrity issues.

Ultimately, the complaint is asking the Alaska Republican Party to “separate itself from Senator Bjorkman immediately through sanction and censure, declaring him ineligible for endorsement or support by the ARP or its affiliates; prohibiting his participation in ARP events; actively recruiting Republican challengers for all his future elections, and every other appropriate sanction not disallowed by ARP or RNC Rules.”

The complaint also asks that Bjorkman change his party affiliation to a “different party with a platform more in line with his values and beliefs.”

The heads of Republican Districts 7 and 8 sent a letter to Bjorkman, dated June 16, to notify him that there is a meeting planned on July 3, 5 p.m., at Paradiso’s Restaurant in Kenai, where he can defend himself against the complaints. It is unclear if Bjorkman plans to attend.

Yes! Long overdue for him and many others over the past 35 years.

If I were Bjorkman, I’d stand in firm opposition to the right-wing loonies who attempt to dominate our schools and government.

    • Elizabeth Henry says:

Your psychological projection aside (it is the left who are loony), Mr. Bjorkman needs to rustle up a shred of courage and honesty and come out of his Democrat closet and register with the party that most reflects his ideology and then run as such. Most left leaning people have little moral or ethical barometer or conviction of right and wrong. Hence what is a lie if it gets you elected?

    REVOLUTION, REFORMATION, REVIVAL

DOES THIS MEAN THE REPUBLICANS ACTUALLY STAND FOR SOMETHING ?

    • Dave says:

Yes it does. There is a platform and rules volunteers spend hours on and their own money to develop & attend committee meetings to finalize & vote on. Unfortunately some politicians who run under the R name either don’t read them, or if they do, pay no attention to them. These 2 districts are calling that out. Kudos to them. They risk continuing to be ignored but I hope the Republicans voters and in fact voters of any party, can see this call for integrity within the R party as a positive thing and through their future votes or communications with representatives, back them up.

Gawd Henry, you are so upside down. “ Hence what is a lie if it gets you elected?” I hope we can agree that trump lied to get elected. Remember his promise for no more wars? And then Iran. And there are thousands of other lies he offered to the gullible voters over the years. You are intelligent and articulate; I assume you were not fooled by him and did not vote for him in 2024

    • Penny Johnson says:

CNN Z0MBIE parrot. Iran is not a war. It’s a limited military action and within the laws, as such. I believe it is you who are the li@r.

  • Proud Alaskan says:

Bjorkman another Rino who needs to go.

  • kathy says:

glad to see there’s at least one member of the legislative branch that realizes you can’t accomplish much without some compromising. People who think there is no need to reach agreement on issues have obviously never had children or been in a lasting relationship. Go Bjorkman! I will vote for you,

    • Steve Peterson says:

There is compromise and then there is wholesale dereliction of the Republican party platform. As others have noted, he just needs to become a independent or a Democrat and run under that label- in other words: be honest! Sadly, many uninformed voters who pay no attention to the issues, see an “R” by his name, presume he is an actual Republican, and vote for him (much like they do with Murkowski). He needs to leave the party because he does not reflect conservative values. He is bought and paid for by the teacher’s union. He was a big proponent of the vax as well.

  • Manny Mullen says:

Republicans are the small tent party.

  • Alalaskan says:

As Alaskans we are coming to a major decision. The Democratic National Party has shown itself to be an Anti-Commonsense party. Less than 10 percenters.
Should the Republican Party be saved?
I believe we should try to make it right, perfect its platform and hold everyone in it to a standard or remove them. I am done with traitors.
What other Party is there to get behind that has even been close to MAGA standards?
Worth trying, before we go throwing the baby out with the bath water.

  • Penny Johnson says:

Would that the ARP does the same to Lisa (Liz) Murkowski. Alaska would be better off without the two of them.

  • jon says:

You know the intent of the founding fathers was that lawmakers would collaborate. This is a prime example of Republicans and Democrats working together. Of course with DonOld as an example Alaska is falling for his evilness.
