The location of this emergency is all of Alaska if you fail to veto HB 195 by June 17.
Under the guise of health care access reform, HB 195 was crafted by extremist pro-abortion legislators to allow pharmacies anywhere in Alaska to prescribe and sell pharmaceuticals, explicitly including the chemical abortion drug misoprostol. Thus, HB 195 violates the most basic principles of the Hippocratic Oath: First do no harm.
Prescription belongs by definition only to physicians. The same entity should never be allowed to both prescribe & profit from prescribed pharmaceuticals. The State Medical Board strongly opposes HB 195. Even abortion practitioners testified against its explicit inclusion of misoprostol, due to the real danger of women hemorrhaging to death from chemical abortions prescribed and dispensed in remote locations without hospitals.
HB 195 is a travesty of real health care access reform, which had to be pressured covertly over the finish line within the last two hours of the session.
Thousands of Alaskans have urgently petitioned you not to let this bill slide into law without your signature, by failing to veto it. Those petitions read:
Abortion Pills claimed 730 babies’ lives in 2025.
ALASKA WATCHMAN DIRECT TO YOUR INBOX
Insurance data shows that 1 in 10 women who take abortion pills experience serious or life-threatening adverse events.
HB 195 would allow pharmacists to prescribe, administer, and dispense abortion pills.
We call on Governor Dunleavy to VETO HB 195 without apology, exception, or compromise. HB 195 is a poison pill for ALL Alaskans.
These petitions confirm that your veto will give Alaskans the opportunity to rally under your leadership to crush any override attempt or prevent it altogether. RINOs will not be able to hide in committee meetings from the demand of their constituents to support your veto, which will expose HB 195 as the contrary of true health care access reform, and its framers as the grossly irresponsible extremists they are.
Give us the opportunity to support you in a veto of HB 195’s potential to devastate Alaskan families, so that it can be replaced with true health care access reform. If you allow HB 195 to become law by failing to veto, your signature will not be on the bill, but it will be written in blood on your conscience.
