Many of Alaska’s men and women in uniform are set to participate in the 2020 Law Enforcement Torch Run & Pledge Drive to help raise funds for Alaska’s Special Olympics athletes.

The event will take place in 15 communities across the state from July 18 to 25.

The week-long, virtual event begins with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. on July 18, when Amanda Price the state’s Department of Public Safety commissioner joins local law enforcement officers and athletes to light a large cauldron in marking the start of the pledge drive. The ceremony will be live streamed on Special Olympics Alaska’s Facebook page.

Supporters will participate from Anchorage, Craig, Delta Junction, Homer, Juneau, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Palmer, Nome, North Pole, Seward, Soldotna, Sitka, Utqiagvik and Valdez.

The run is expected to be the largest multi-community running experience held in Alaska this year, with a goal of raising $130,000 for Special Olympics Alaska communities. All funds will be utilized in Alaska.

Orchestrated by the Alaska law enforcement community, the Torch Run and Pledge Drive is open to all law enforcement officers and the general public. Walkers, runners, joggers, strollers and rollerbladers are welcome to participate in this family fun run and log their results online.

Participants are encouraged to obtain pledges from co-workers, neighbors, family members and friends. People can register here.
