Critical Race Theory is a repackaged Marxist ideology that has infiltrated public schools, libraries, businesses, governmental structures and cultural institutions all across the nation, including here in Alaska.
We now see it in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and other towns that are increasingly adopting this ideology with the aim of fundamentally reshaping the education of our youth, our cultural life and ultimately the political and philosophical direction of state.

We must have a firm command of the ideas behind this worldview.
It is fundamentally a Marxist philosophy, which divides the world between “oppressors” and the “oppressed.” But rather focusing on the struggle between economic classes, Critical Race Theory foments racial struggle.
Where Marx saw property owners and class warfare as the main source of inequality, CRT asserts that whiteness (or better yet white people and all their ways) as the root cause of social injustice.
Critical Race theory does not judge individuals on the content of their personal character but rather on the specific color of their skin. You are not seen as an unrepeatable and unique person, but fundamentally as a member of a racial GROUP, and should be judge accordingly.
It does not matter what an individual personally believes or how they behave.
If you are a member of the white race, Critical Race Theory adherents believe you are to blame for either actively or passively promoting white culture which holds other races back, while benefiting whites.
It does not matter what an individual personally believes or how they behave. You may have married someone of another race. Your best friend or children may be of other races. You may believe that all people were created equally before God. None of this matters, unless you are willing to take the next step.
Adherents of Critical Race theory demand that you abandon the idea of equal rights and embrace the notion of equal outcomes.
Why? Because they claim that ALL unequal outcomes by race are caused by systemic racial oppression, not personal choices or individual decisions.
If you do not 100% buy into this, then you cannot be a true ally. In fact, you are part of the problem, and it may be that your employment needs to be terminated, your books banned, social media accounts suspended and reputation destroyed.
The only way to redeem yourself, and avoid this unhappy end, is to fess up to your white privilege, criticize your race, its customs and beliefs and seek to eradicate whatever aspects are deemed racist by the overlords of Critical Race Theory.
According to Critical Race Theory thought leaders like the Black Lives Matter founders and Abrim X. Kendi (who’s books are being celebrated and disseminated in Alaska libraries and schools) the main problem is overcoming “whiteness” in our culture.
Whiteness, includes believing in things like personal achievement, keeping schedules, meeting deadlines, delaying gratification, awarding high achievement and hard work, focusing on reading and writing and yes, even belief in science and mathematics.
Whiteness also entails belief in ideas like objectivity, logic and reason. All of these are seen as byproducts of a white culture which must be deconstructed in order to achieve racial equity.
In rejecting whiteness, one must also embrace the destruction of certain cultural institutions such as the free market, the Western justice system, the nuclear family (composed of a mom and dad) and traditional understandings of Christianity.
This last point should be of particular concern to people of faith. According to Abrim X. Kendi, the teachings of Jesus Christ are fundamentally flawed because he promotes the idea that people are in need of personal forgiveness for individual sins committed of their own free will. According to Kendi, Christ’s teachings undermine the notion that all shortcomings are due to large scale structural inequities promoted by whiteness adherents.
In a March 23 forum, Kendi blasted Christian churches for promoting the idea that Christ came to save individuals from their personal sins. Kendi asserts this is fundamentally racist and bigoted because it suggests that people are free and thus personal responsible for their own behavior.
Critical Race Theory is now at our doorstep. If Alaskans do not articulately expose this poisonous philosophy, our cities, schools and cultural institutions will continue their rapid transformation.
