On June 23, a Bethel Grand Jury returned an indictment charging former Chevak mayor Ulric Jeffrey Ulroan with 47 counts related to allegations that he sexually assaulted and/or abused various teenage girls between 2009 and 2025 in Chevak, Anchorage, Mountain Village and Nome.

Ulroan was also an award-winning certified foster parent from 2005 to 2023, and has previously served as a high school girls’ basketball coach. In 2019, the Alaska Federation of Natives awarded him “parent of the year” honors.

He now faces charges that include Sexual Assault in the First Degree, Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the First Degree, Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the Second Degree, Indecent Exposure in the Second Degree, and Furnishing Alcohol to a Person Under 21.

On Jan. 13, 2026, Alaska State Troopers- Alaska Bureau of Investigation (ABI) received a tip that the 48-year-old Ulroan had sexually abused a 17-year-old girl in Chevak between 2009 and 2010. During the course of the investigation, additional women came forward and reported that Ulroan sexually assaulted and/or abused them

On June 24, Ulroan was arrested and remanded to Anvil Mountain Correctional Center. Bail is set at $250,000.

The Alaska State Troopers believe that there could be additional victims. Those with information that would aid this investigation are urged to contact the Alaska State Troopers at (907) 451-5100.

The charges in the indictment are only allegations and are not evidence of guilt. Ulroan is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the prosecution must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
