The Fairbanks School Board, now firmly controlled by hard-leftist members, is set to vote on a resolution that would call on all local schools to officially celebrate and actively promote LGBTQ History Month throughout all of October.

Introduced by School Board President Bobby Burgess, the resolution is listed on the school board’s meeting agenda for Sept. 15. It specifically states that “numerous individuals in the LGBTQ community, globally, nationally, and locally have made substantial contributions and accomplishments in our community,” and claims that the “LGBTQ community is an asset to the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.”

The resolution emphasizes that the school district intentionally strives to foster LGBTQ History Month celebrations by “allowing students to acknowledge the history, culture and contributions of LGBTQ individuals, role models, and historical events from across the country and community.”

It adds that the Fairbanks School District “serves as a role model for inclusion, equity, protection, and representation for all of its students, staff members, and diverse communities,” and states that the board aims to recognize October as LGBTQ History Month as a way to encourage “schools throughout the district to promote a community where all students and staff are supported and affirmed.”

Nationally, this month-long celebration of sexual identities and orientations is organized by a group called Equality Forum. The goal is to highlight the achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender “icons.”

“Each day in October, a new LGBT Icon is featured with a video, bio, bibliography, downloadable images and other resources,” the Equality Forum website explains.

The initiative began in 1994, when Rodney Wilson, a Missouri high school teacher, thought it would be a good idea to set aside an entire school month to promote gay and lesbian history. Organizers specifically selected October because summer vacation was over and public schools were in session. This was seen as a prime opportunity to expose children to this ideology.

“The LGBT community is the only community worldwide that is not taught its history at home, in public schools or in religious institutions,” the Equality Forum website explains.

In addition to promoting various sexual preferences, identities and orientations next month, the school board is set to vote on a separate resolution aimed at encouraging parents and children to increase student attendance rates in October.
