Rev. Matt Schultz, the ultra-leftwing pastor who just blasted fellow Democrat Bill Hill for accepting help from outside dark money in the race for U.S. Congress, has now announced that he’s dropping out of the race and supporting Hill.

Two days after he claimed to “reject dark money spending to support Bill Hill or Nick Begich,” Schultz urged Alaskans to vote for Hill anyway.

“I am deeply disappointed that the GOP chose to meddle in this race and that too many institutions within the Democratic Party ecosystem declined to meaningfully support a campaign rooted in service, integrity, and the needs of working Alaskans,” Schultz stated on July 17. “But we are living through a moment when our democracy itself is under threat, and defeating Nick Begich and restoring a Democratic majority in the House must come before any one candidate or campaign.”

Schultz’s statement had nothing positive to say about Hill.

As he has often done in past statements and campaign stumps, Schultz framed his decision to drop out in spiritual overtones.

“Suspending this campaign does not mean stepping away from the fight,” he said. “My faith teaches me that we are called to seek justice, care for our neighbors, and stand against systems that put wealth and power ahead of people, and I will continue answering that call, within this election cycle and beyond. I will keep fighting for a more just world, for a government that serves people first, and to get big money and the influence of out-of-state billionaires out of our politics.”

Schultz pastors the ultra-liberal First Presbyterian Church in Anchorage, where he is active in pushing the LGBTQ agenda, abortion and other left-wing causes.
