The vast majority of both Democrats and Republicans in Alaska favor criminalizing late-term abortion, according to a new poll by a left-of-center polling project called “Common Ground in the Battlegrounds.”
The Alaska survey was conducted July 22-Aug. 3 and included 600 adults from across the political spectrum.
Among the findings, the poll indicates that 70% of Alaska respondents favor imposing prison time or major fines for abortionists who intentionally kill a viable preborn baby who could have otherwise survived outside her mother’s womb. This includes 57% of Democrats and 80% of Republicans. Overall, 70% of Alaskans favor criminalizing these late-term abortions. The margin of error was +/- 6.5%.
Despite these findings, Alaska remains one of the most pro-abortion states in the nation, with no limits on when a preborn baby can be killed via abortion. The Alaska Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that the privacy clause in the State Constitution should be interpreted to mean that there is a fundamental right to abortion on demand. To date, every pro-life law has been struck down by the Alaska Supreme Court.
Many pro-life advocates have argued that the Alaska Legislature needs to explicitly define what the “right to privacy” means in the Alaska Constitution and clarify that it does not entail abortion. While the Legislature has the constitutional authority to define the “right to privacy,” it has never done so.
A press release by the pollsters clearly reveals that the goal of the recent Alaska survey was to demonstrate that most Alaskans oppose criminalizing abortion before a preborn baby is viable outside the womb.
Alaska respondents were asked whether it should be a crime to provide an abortion, punishable with prison time or major fines for the doctor. Three options were presented:
— Make abortion a crime at any point during the pregnancy (selected by 17% of Democrats, 23% of Republicans, 21% overall)
— Make abortion a crime only after the fetus is viable (22-24 weeks), meaning the fetus can likely survive outside the womb (selected by 40% of Democrats, 57% of Republicans, 49% overall)
— Do not make abortion a crime (selected by 42% of Democrats, 20% of Republicans, 30% overall)
The pollsters noted that combining the answers from the second and third positions reveals that “a large bipartisan majority opposes making abortion a crime before fetal viability. This includes 82% of Democrats, 77% of Republicans, and 79% overall.”
However, the pollsters were also forced to acknowledge that combining the answers from the first two positions shows that 57% of Democrats, 80% of Republicans and 70% of Alaskans overall support making abortion a crime after fetal viability.

Conducted by the University of Maryland’s Program for Public Consultation, the polling project was backed by several left-of-center public policy groups. These include Program for Public Consultation, Civic Innovation Center, and Voice of the People.
In the lead-up to the midterm elections, the Common Ground in the Battlegrounds project is conducting and releasing a survey series in 11 competitive states and 28 competitive U.S. House districts.
The goal of the project is to show where Americans broadly agree on certain political issues in an effort to demonstrate bipartisan support for certain policies about abortion, birth control access, immigration and more.

Like it or not, there are medical emergencies in which a late-term abortion is indicated. Do you seriously think that ANY woman would carry a pregnancy for nine months, only to say at the last moment, “No, I’ve changed my mind, I want an abortion!” ??? NO woman does this, and to suggest such a thing is dangerously misogynistic. Medical reasons for an abortion late in pregnancy include severe health threats to the pregnant woman and lethal fetal abnormalities. If you ask people if doctors should be punished in such cases, I think your answers will be much different.
Actually, that idea is a lie. There are numerous obstetricians and even reformed abortionists who say this is a lie. Late term medical emergencies do happen, such as fetal distress, eclampsia, or malpositioning of the placenta. These are among the most dangerous conditions to the woman or the baby’s lives (often both). All of these are resolved by “ending the pregnancy” with a c-section.
That term, “ending a pregnancy” is abused by abortion promoters, like you, to mislead people to believe there is actually any medical condition that can occur that requires that a late-term baby be killed in the womb in order to save the woman’s life. This is not true. There is no such condition.
However… keeping late term abortion legal gives pedophiles and sex traffickers recourse when one of their slaves gets pregnant. Sadly, many women who have been in these abusive situations have also come forward in a few court cases. Also, abortion “sting” operations have exposed abortionists for failing to report when such abuse situations are suspected.
There is no medical argument that supports “saving a woman’s life” by killing her unborn baby, but it certainly helps dirt bags keep girls and women in sexual bondage. Maybe you should look around at your allies on the pro-abortion side and ask yourself “qui bono?” That alone is compelling enough reason to run away from abortion.

Humanity has been reproducing for eons, why is it suddenly so dangerous for women to experience child birth with all the medical marvels we have available to us? The reason is, a lie. Paul Hart, can you provide the medical conditions, specifically, that indicate abortion at 30 (+/-) weeks?
If you cannot, that’s okay. Instead, tell us how an abortion is performed at 30 weeks.
You’re talking life and death here, so it’s fair to expect accurate and exact reasoning for your advocacy, not just rhetorical or anecdotal reasoning.
One final though: can women be “dangerously misogynistic?’ If a woman asserts that women choose to kill their babies at nine months, is that ‘dangerously misogynistic?’ What if there is data supporting that claim? Is the data misogynistic? A fair and open debate on life and death issues deserves to be focused on facts and logic, and where we don’t agree, harmful labels shouldn’t be tied to people in order to stifle dissent and debate.
Less than 1% of all pregnancies qualify for a true medical emergency that puts the mother’s life at genuine risk!! The problem is a doctor can qualify just about anything including mental suffering as a medical emergency justifying abortion in Alaska. Similarly only .5 % of all rapes result in a viable pregnancy.

You will be punished severely if you abort any animal if it is a puppy, bear, Moose, etc. and yeah, a human being can be aborted at any time? Make this make sense. I’m against abortion at any time it is torture and murder. And I believe that God will punish those that do such things and approve of such things.
If a “medical condition” calls for an early delivery late in a pregnancy, why kill the baby first by performing an abortion? Women deliver early all the time, often to save the baby’s life. This whole late-term abortion idea is barbaric and says volumes about the depravity of those who support it.

As a Catholic, she is refused communion at the alter by priests in Alaska but she seems unaffected by that decision at that moment in face of receiving communion. She doesn’t understand why so many can’t see her explanation that abortion is just healthcare for a women. So, she signs every bill for money to sources nationally and internationally for that purpose. This woman is one of the most evil to come out of DC and put there by her father as a gift to Alaska. 1500 abortions a year in Alaska. Aborted by doctors in our state. Sick is just sick!
