During the Faith and Freedom Coalition 2026 Conference on June 26, President Donald Trump had harsh words for Alaska U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski.

Speaking of the Save America Act, which aims to strengthen U.S. voter ID laws, Trump noted that Murkowski is one of a handful of Republicans who have joined ranks with Democrats to oppose the legislation.

“There are a few Republicans who are doing a tremendous disservice to this country,” Trump told the gathering. “We have a few Republicans that are fighting it – Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.”

He urged people to call Murkowski and tell her to “get on the ball.”

“She’ll never win another election, I can tell you,” Trump warned. “She’s got to vote.”

Trump explained that the Save America Act is all about voter ID.

“So, you can look and say, ‘Oh, that person’s okay,’” he noted. “We want proof of citizenship, and we want no mail in ballots except for illness, disability and military deployment or travel.”

The Save America Act, which would mandate proof of U.S. citizenship for federal voter registration and strict photo ID requirements, has stalled after passing the House in February 2026. A Senate amendment failed in early June on a 48-50 vote, with some Republicans like Murkowski joining Democrats in opposition.

To underscore the wider need for stronger voting laws in general, Trump pointed to California, which is still counting ballots, weeks after its elections.

“They’re cheating,” he asserted. “Day after day, you hear reports about vote counting. They go on for weeks.”

Trump compared California’s system to that of Colombia, which just had an election with 30 million voters, and the results were available by 9:30 p.m. on election night.

“Here we are in California. We’re going to go for weeks and weeks and weeks. And you know what they do, they cheat. ‘How many votes do we need?’ … That’s why they take their time.”
