In a targeted campaign aimed at influencing Alaska voters to back a hard-left agenda ahead of the upcoming federal elections, State Sen. Forrest Dunbar (D-Anchorage) is joining an outside, dark-money-funded blitz to blame Republicans for rising health care costs.
On July 15, Dunbar plans to stand alongside AFL-CIO Union President Joelle Hall to announce the launch of what amounts to a sustained, Lower-48-backed political assault on conservative-leaning candidates.
Titled “Sick of It! Fix Health Care Now,” the campaign is a multi-month project by a group called Protect Our Care, which is bankrolled by the nonprofit 1630 Fund. The strategy includes using live events, townhalls, carefully trained storytellers, blanket advertising and a bus tour to gin up opposition to Republicans.
The 1630 Fund is described by Influence Watch as “one of the left’s largest hubs of dark money” and “a clearinghouse of undisclosed cash for the left.” The group does not have to disclose its individual donors and receives funding from wealthy leftist philanthropists and groups. These funds support broad liberal activism, including progressive healthcare policy efforts like the current campaign.

Partner groups associated with the “Sick of It!” include a long list of pro-abortion entities and groups that support leftist policies on immigration, identity politics, LGBTQ initiatives and critical race theory, among others.
Alaska entities listed as partners include the AFL-CIO union, Alaska Democrats, Alaska State Employees Association, SEIU 775, 907 Initiative and Mat-Su United for Progress.
Overall, the campaign will focus on supporting Obamacare and increasing government funding for healthcare.
While the Alaska campaign will target Sen. Dan Sullivan and Congressman Nick Begich, this is just one element of a broader 14-state initiative focused on attacking GOP candidates across the country in an effort to win the U.S. House and Senate.
