Kenai Republicans in House District 6 issued endorsements for three candidates whom they believe are “most qualified” to serve as Alaska’s next governor. These are Dave Bronson, Shelley Hughes and Bernadette Wilson.

On April 30, District 6 published its endorsements, following a vetting process that included a questionnaire to determine whether the candidates would support the GOP’s guiding principles and platform.

The questionnaire was sent to each Republican in the packed gubernatorial race, which includes 12 GOP candidates. Six candidates returned questionnaires, and five participated in interviews – James Parkin, Bruce Walden, Shelley Hughes, Bernadette Wilson and Dave Bronson.

“Dave Bronson, Shelley Hughes and Bernadette Wilson demonstrated exceptional alignment with our Party’s guiding principles and platform during both the questionnaire and interview process, making them stand out as the most qualified candidates for endorsement,” District 6 announced. “We believe that either Dave Bronson, Shelley Hughes or Bernadette Wilson will provide strong leadership for Alaska and uphold the values of District 6. We encourage all Republican voters to support these candidates in the upcoming election.”

District 6, which includes Homer, Ninilchik, Kasilof and Kachemak Bay, is one of 40 Alaska House legislative districts, which act as the grassroots foundation for the state party. They focus on electing local candidates, passing resolutions, advancing party principles and issuing endorsements.

The Kenai Peninsula includes three other GOP House districts – 5, 7 and 8, which have not yet publicly issued endorsements.

Additional endorsements from other districts around the state are expected to roll out in the days and weeks ahead.
