Kenai Republicans in House District 6 issued endorsements for three candidates whom they believe are “most qualified” to serve as Alaska’s next governor. These are Dave Bronson, Shelley Hughes and Bernadette Wilson.
On April 30, District 6 published its endorsements, following a vetting process that included a questionnaire to determine whether the candidates would support the GOP’s guiding principles and platform.
The questionnaire was sent to each Republican in the packed gubernatorial race, which includes 12 GOP candidates. Six candidates returned questionnaires, and five participated in interviews – James Parkin, Bruce Walden, Shelley Hughes, Bernadette Wilson and Dave Bronson.
“Dave Bronson, Shelley Hughes and Bernadette Wilson demonstrated exceptional alignment with our Party’s guiding principles and platform during both the questionnaire and interview process, making them stand out as the most qualified candidates for endorsement,” District 6 announced. “We believe that either Dave Bronson, Shelley Hughes or Bernadette Wilson will provide strong leadership for Alaska and uphold the values of District 6. We encourage all Republican voters to support these candidates in the upcoming election.”

District 6, which includes Homer, Ninilchik, Kasilof and Kachemak Bay, is one of 40 Alaska House legislative districts, which act as the grassroots foundation for the state party. They focus on electing local candidates, passing resolutions, advancing party principles and issuing endorsements.
The Kenai Peninsula includes three other GOP House districts – 5, 7 and 8, which have not yet publicly issued endorsements.
Additional endorsements from other districts around the state are expected to roll out in the days and weeks ahead.

Go Shelley!
These are Dave Bronson, Shelley Hughes and Bernadette Wilson.
Wilson has Never answered any of the Watchman questions. Can she be trusted?
Can she be trusted? Good question. She worked for Alaska Family Action lobbying for good things, until she got a little too cozy with a Democrat in the Legislature. She helped get Bronson into office his first term as mayor, and then watched (set up?) her boyfriend run against him when he ran for re-election. She yelled at the Assembly and organized a dance party outside the Loussac during Covid. She’s good at speaking forcefully and telling people what they want to hear. She’s good at making herself popular, but lacks commitment and credibility. Her track record is short and not good…I haven’t been able to figure out if she’s ever taken the time to earn a college degree, but she certainly seems to think she deserves to be Governor because Wally Hickel is her great uncle.
Honestly this is a red flag for me. One of three.
1) Her pictures with Lisa Murkowski.
2) Her not answering Watchman questions
3) Her involved with the newest RCV petition is sketchy. (After all the grassroots did for the last petition for the state RNC to come out with their own petition AFTER the grassroots already had one. All while providing almost no support at all last time. They are riding the coattails of the community effort before them, trying to take the glory. Wilson being involved with that makes me question her affiliated with the inept state RNC. I’d rather an outsider.)
Given all of that. Between the three listed in this article, Bronson will get my vote.
Go Bronson!
Not a Republican due to the weakness of the party (example: Lisa Murkowski proudly represents ‘Alaska Republicans’ shamelessly – so little more needs to be said about the party that does nothing to this misbehaving rogue RINO).
Democrats are NEVER on my list. No surprise about the new DSA – Democrat Socialist/Communist Party.
So. AS a Kenai Resident who wasn’t asked about my choice – choosing as Unaffiliated to any party, there is only one candidate on the Republican Kenai support list (Bronson) that is even worth looking at.
BUT! My choice, due to her visions, her answers to the Watchman Q&A’s and her experience is my favorite: Mat-Su Mayor Edna DeVries.
Thank you for your attention to this matter
I agree Edna will get my families votes!
