Alaska House Bill 195, which Gov. Dunleavy vetoed only to have it overturned by Democrat lawmakers and their GOP allies, is surrounded by scheming and sabotage to end the lives of thousands of Alaskans.

Alaska’s own legislative attorney, Conrad Gunther, warned in an April 2026 legal memo that HB 195 could open the door to a vast expansion of chemical abortions across Alaska. Responding to concerns raised by Representative Jamie Allard, Gunther concluded that if abortion care falls within the scope of pharmacist practice, and if HB 195 becomes law, pharmacists would likely argue that existing restrictions on their abortion practice are unconstitutional. The Alaska Supreme Court – which has struck down nearly every pro-life law ever enacted in this state – would likely agree.
Before lawmakers passed this bill, Rep. Jamie Allard introduced an amendment to guard life and gave our legislators an opportunity to prove that this bill is genuinely for helping people with full protection for our unborn and their mothers. However, instead of supporting and voting in favor of the amendment, many legislators showed their true colors as they PURPOSELY left out the life-saving section. This reveals that their intentions are indeed to use this bill to open up the gates to dangerous abortion pills throughout the state of Alaska.
Why are abortion pills dangerous?
Here is an article based on an interview with an OBGYN who has personally worked with hundreds of victims of the Mifepristone Cocktail: OPINION: Alaskans must oppose the silent genocide in our midst. Here are testimonies from women who took abortion pills: https://www.littlepillsthatkill.com/.
Rep. Prax is a person who I thought would stand for life, but with his refusal to support Rep. Allard’s amendment, I’ve come to realize that it’s time to stand by someone who has a proven prolife record.
When legislators claim HB 195 will help rural communities, once pharmacists begin distributing abortion pills to women in villages miles away from hospitals, without even an ultrasound to determine the age of the baby or if the baby is in the fallopian tube, they are setting up 1 out of every 10 of these mothers to go into deadly sepsis or hemorrhage with no access to hospitalization. Such carelessness could result in both the death of the unborn child and the mother – ESPECIALLY in rural communities.
The Alaska House passed HB 195 by a vote of 32 to 8.
The fix was straightforward. A simple amendment explicitly excluding pharmacists from prescription authority granted by HB 195 would have addressed the concern entirely. That amendment was never included.
The majority of the legislators voted down this amendment, which would have saved countless lives.

North Pole Representative Mike Prax did not merely vote for the bill, his name appears as a sponsor. This stands as one of his few notable legislative achievements this session.
Rep. Prax is a person who I thought would stand for life, but with his refusal to support Rep. Allard’s amendment, I have come to realize that it’s time to stand by someone who has a proven prolife record by their actions (not just words), someone who is 100% prolife, pro-family, pro-freedom and loves and serves Christ.
With that, I am shifting my support to Barbara Haney in House District 33.
The only way to save precious lives in our state is to elect people who are not afraid to swim against the current, not shy about speaking out, and who are ready to be a voice for the voiceless, regardless of how much pressure or threats they endure from the Democrat-controlled majority caucuses in Juneau.
Candidates running for House District 33
The political picture surrounding HD 33 deserves scrutiny.
Candidate Pepper Macfarland’s campaign treasurer is Fairbanks Borough Assemblyman Garrett Armstrong, who was endorsed by Planned Parenthood and backed by left-leaning The Alaska Center in 2025. Armstrong once used his Assembly seat to call a legal appeal by his opponent, Barbara Haney, a “criminal act” — a characterization that is both false and again shows his true colors.
Lives are at stake in the upcoming election, and it’s time for Christian conservatives to be brave and to speak out with letters to the editors, by showing up to vote, and also by supporting real prolife candidates. If I know of a solid prolife, pro-family candidate, I am going to broadcast it.
Barbara Haney is that person. A longtime North Pole resident and former Fairbanks Borough Assembly member, Haney has a documented pro-life record. She has personally advocated for and donated to the pro-life Fyndout Free Pregnancy Center, which provides free pregnancy confirmation, ultrasounds, adoption counseling, and parenting support to women across our community. Haney’s letter of intent to run for HD 33 was filed nearly concurrent with the House vote on Prax’s House Bill 195.

The contrast could not be clearer. District 33 candidates include a sponsor of HB 195 on one side, a candidate with a Planned Parenthood-endorsed campaign treasurer on the other. Barbara Haney — a genuine pro-life advocate with a documented record of service — offers a third way.
North Pole and all Alaskans deserve a representative who would have demanded that a pro-life amendment be inserted into House Bill 195 in order to protect Alaska mothers and their children – our next generation. We need someone who would have refused to sponsor legislation enabling pharmacist-prescribed abortifacients without explicit protections. We need someone who has shown — not merely claimed — a commitment to life.
